Three. I just can't believe it. How on earth do I have a three year old? It can't be....Life without her, doesn't even seem like it could exist. From newborn to infant to baby to toddler, now....a little girl. A little girl that is smart, funny, caring, nurturing, energetic, spirited and so loving.

Running, hopping, galloping, dancing, sashaying, and occasionally somersaulting, are some of your favorite movements.You love music and singing on anything that looks remotely like a microphone. And it is more like screaming no singing, because if you aren't doing it loud then why bother. You also have a real interest in mom's violin. Your little imagination has really blossomed. You still have your three monkeys : Mildred, Colorado and Vashon Island. They pretty much go everywhere with us. You like to talk to them, tell them stories, read them books, and order them around. Usually the time it appears to be some sort of mockery of your mother :) You also still LOVE your baby dolls. You have stopped breastfeeding them and have now change them with Jackson's diapers every five minutes. You think their poopy diapers are so real that you insist on throwing them away and I have to sneak into the trash to recover the hundreds of diapers you dispose of by the hour. Your love for books is still AMAZING to me. No joke, you would read ALL day if I could. We probably spend on average an hour a day reading books to you. Recently I read 40 minutes straight, and you still didn't think we were done. Even if we have only read a book one time or something we read months ago you can pretty much finish the last word of every sentence.You also enjoy grabbing a stack of books and reading them yourself. It is so much fun to sit nearby and listen to you recount the stories we have told. Your memory is UNBELIEVABLE. I know I have said this before, but literally NOTHING gets by you. Nothing. You amaze others with recounting events that happened months ago. Just last night you asked me where your caterpillar was. The caterpillar Kiki who we kept in a jar in the house for a week until he appeared to be not doing so well and mom released. Yes that was months ago. You also pick up conversations people have and recount these even if you were in the other room. We are working on all your letter sounds and recognition, and writing. Just the other day you asked to color and said 'Look I drew a J!' Sure enough a backwards J was on your paper. And although you don't want to sit still long enough to learn the letter sounds you are picking up much more than I think, busting out U for umbrella or things similar to this all the time. You definitely recognize all the letters and numbers from 1-10 and can count to 20 only missing number 15. You ask me every time you are int the tub if I have picked out your outfit for the day and get upset if I haven't. But when you see what I have picked out you get mad and insist wearing something else. Just the other day you looked at me and said, but I want a choice! We have really leaned on choices as a positive discipline route in empowering you to make your own decisions, and ones that we are ok with. And apparently you have noticed :) You are a very good eater, and will try anything. I never have to worry about making meals around you, and I love you for this. You even love things like salad and kale. You love when we go to PCC versus the other stores because they have the mini carts. And although it feels like a train wreck to me, while I try to remember what we are getting, keep your brother seated (as he likes to stand in the cart) and direct your cart (or race cart) from hitting every person and item in the store....you really are getting quite good at steering and watching for others. You can almost 100 percent dress yourself. You sometimes just get a little frustrated, and whine. But that see,s to be coming out in just about everything, so we have really been working on that. You just like to give up without putting a whole lot of effort into things, hoping mom or dad will save you. And your temper...oh my. Just like your mother :) It sure is a reminder to demonstrate good behavior....so I am trying and well we are trying together. Your language is amazing and even more so your annunciation. I will hear other kids at the park that are 5 talk, and you speak waaaay better. So clear and soooo many words. I love it when you use your big words like certainly, inappropriate, and unacceptable, all in context. You have really figured out how to manipulate every situation, and so tactfully. Like if you want my attention and I am not giving it to you, you just walk over and push your brother down. But really your relationship with him is quite special. You kiss him goodnight, give him a hug and say 'I love you buddy.' before his naps and each night. You like to mimic me and guide him around showing him things, saying 'careful that is dangerous.' Don't get me wrong, you two have your moments, and no how to push each others buttons, but for the most part you really get a long. Something we really have worked to foster and sure hope you will continue for a lifetime. You are still a daddy's girl, but with mom being home now...it really has strengthened our relationship. You love pink, nail polish, hair stuff, lip gloss, dresses....and ANYTHING girly. You have a little OCD in you and have to put things back in their place at the store if something fell of the rack. And when cleaning up at home you focus on the very small details, making sure the very small pieces are in the right place versus just throwing them in the toy box. This I think is your way of stalling to pick up. You love spending time with your cousins, and ask about them regularly. And finally in my mind two of your biggest achievements of this last year the potty and binky. For 5 months now you have been 100% potty trained. Day time and night time, and it is great. The other milestone, which was not as easy to tackle, was the binky. The binky fairy came on Christmas (when mom and dad forgot it at home....so there was no going back) and gave it to a new baby who needed it. After 1 horrible night and 1 kind of bad night....we were done! The only repercussion of this....you were officially done with naps, which you still need.

Although I was thrilled to celebrate this day and make it all about you (as your party isn't for a couple of weeks at the new house), I did so slightly somberly. Because I can't believe that three years, that I can never repeat, are over. Three years that have been so wonderful where we both have learned so much together. Whether I like it or not, life goes on even faster and you are growing up so fast. As hard as this can be, it is quite amazing to track your progression and watch you turn into a little person. A little person your dad and I can be so proud of.

As more years go by all of the days start to blend together and the most impacting and important memories are the ones that prevail at the front of my mind. Not the day to day activities. But the happy and sad times, all the laughs, tears, joys and heartache of life. And with another year behind us, still the day of her birth (my first child), is something that can never be forgotten. I think some of the anxiety that prevailed with the reality that I was about to push a watermelon out of a lemon, might of overcome the minute by minute detail recapping....but overall the feelings I felt that day, my whereabouts and the moment my eyes and arms first laid upon her is something that no matter how much time passes will never be lost. Feelings that I wish everyone could experience and that simply can't be put into words.

I am sure I recount the story every year, but how could I not. Everyone says it forever changes you, and well that can't be further from the truth. It was on this day that I earned the title Mom. A title I yearned to attain someday as a little girl and practiced relentlessly with babies and dolls. Plus recounting the event every year allows me to relive the moment. The feelings of overwhelming happiness and reality that hit like a ton of bricks. And although I couldn't be happier and prouder of the little girl she has grown into. It is also an even bigger reminder that life is simply passing by too fast. It is a reminder to stop, give her a big hug and kiss and to hold her really tight. For tomorrow she will be off to college.

The day you came into the world:

I remember sitting in from of my computer at work. Angry. Ya that's right stark right mad. It was my due date and I was sure, almost 100%, that I might be pregnant forever. There were very little signs that you would be coming in the imminent future, maybe even never. I tried to stay busy with work, but with turning most of my projects over, with your impending arrival, there was very little to do. Several trips later to the bathroom, a lunch break surfing the internet for any distraction possible and uncountable comments from co-workers- 'Why are you here?' 'Isn't today the day?'- It was finally time to go home. There had been some tightening to report to the hubby, but nothing consistent or remarkably noteworthy. There was no way we would spend the evening at home stewing about how this process was NEVER going to happen, so we trekked to Nonni and Papa Andy's to pass time. Andrew's sister Katie and their cousin Shaunna from CA happened to be at the house collecting family pictures for a future slideshow. Having both been through this process recently, they set my mind at ease. The tightening was become a little more noticeable and more consistent during our visit, but I dared not tell a soul. I couldn't bare another call, 'how are you feeling?' 'Is anything happening?' I called my mom on the way home and told her it might be soon. I looked at Andrew before we went to bed and said, 'Let's get some rest, it could be tonight.'

I woke at 3:30am and sat in bed silently counting them out. First 9-10 min then 8-9 min. At 4:30am I showered and got ready. I kept telling Andrew he could probably go to work and I would make it to my scheduled 8:30 appointment just fine by myself. But as 7:30am rolled around they were 5min apart and beginning to get real intense. I quickly realized the result of me driving would be a 5 car pile up on 405, and wouldn't do anyone any good. So I settled on Chauffeur Fitzpatrick.

With my doctor out of town my schedule appointment was with Dr. Stemmerman. I had never met her, but she was who I was originally referred to in the office. I was at 3cm with a bulging sac of water that could burst at any moment. She gave me the choice to get checked in at the 'inn' or wait it out and let things progress in a more comfortable setting, like home. That was probably one of the easiest choices I have ever made in my lifetime. So onto labor and delivery we went.

After filling out some paperwork we sat and waited for our nurse to come get us and bring us to our room. This was it. I was completely overcome with emotion. I looked at Andrew and said, 'We are having a baby!' It was actually going to happen. But no I couldn't get excited until we were in the room and was SURE we weren't getting sent home. My mom called to ask what size sweatshirt she needed to exchange for Andrew. Before I could answer, wait where are you?? It's time, we are at the hospital. I was suppose to be picking her up from the airport in less than 4 hours.

I don't remember the room number, but I know we finally got all settled in around 10:30. After finding a ride for my mom (thanks Andy!) and the settling in my mind that this was it and we weren't getting sent home, we could finally relax. We watched some office episodes, walked around the hall to keep things moving and let things take their course.

I don't remember the exact sequencing of things from this point on, because they got so intense. But I know my mom showed up around 2pm when things were getting real fun. They had just checked me and I was at a 3-4cm and broke my water. The contractions were getting so intense and I just couldn't get comfortable. I tried different positions, but nothing helped. I remember holding onto the bed rail in agony in pure silence. No one was talking, as I think they were all afraid to utter a word. I ate a few popsicles which kept me going and decided to try getting in the bath tub. Things really sped up when I got in the tub and after 20 minutes I will never forget looking at Andrew and saying, 'I am done. I want the epidural and I want it ready as soon as I get out of this tub.'

To call the Anesthesiologist my hero would have been an understatement. Not only was it not half as bad as I had anticipated, but he was just awesome. So helpful, encouraging and a godsend. He even came back in the room while I was pushing and was more encouraging then any of the other medical staff. After 20 minutes the pain was still there though, and the nurse called him back to figure out why it wasn't working. He said 'Push the button!' Andrew quickly pushed the button and in a short time I was one happy camper. I looked at my mom and Andrew and said, 'Aren't we happy I got the epidural?' It was a unanimous, yes!

We settled in and got comfortable realizing it would probably take a while, after all I had been sitting at a 3 all day and my contractions were literally on top of each other. We turned on sex and the city and Andrew and my mom started to enjoy some dinner. After 30 minutes I felt an insane pressure and the nurse seemed skeptical, really?? She checked me and sure enough...I was at a 10 and the babies head was right there. It was time!

After an insanely hurried prep to get things ready and get the doctor in the room...it was 20 minutes of pushing and there you were at 5:57pm on 1.29.09. Tons of black curly hair, a little squished nose, and strong little muscular legs. So little, so helpless and so our responsibility to take care of forever. The reality of your arrival was still shocking and I kept waiting for someone to come in and take you away. You were really mine, forever.

So there it is. Your arrival, recounted three whole years later. And as much as the single event of your birth has changed me, that was only just the beginning. In three short years your dad and I have watched your amazing growth and progression. From days to diapers to undies, crawling to galloping, simple words to full structured sentences, sippy cups to normal cups, and so much more. Beyond the importance of what you have learned are the things you have taught us. Patience, a new kind of love, utter silliness and selflessness. More to come on the wonderful little girl you have turned into.

Enjoying January

With not too many items planned on our agenda this month we have been trying to keep busy. With our imminent move (beginning of February) I have promised myself that we would pack a little at a time, instead of cramming at the end. Although, Andrew assures me we work better under pressure. So the first endeavor, organizing the garage so it is easier to move. Can you even believe after looking at the picture below, that this is what our garage looks like pre-packing? We have a tandom garage and thanks to Juel breaking the door when we first moved in, we have never parked in it. As a result it has become the storage unit full of sporting goods, a weight set, toys, baby goods, Christmas decorations, and bags and bags of the kids baby clothes. I haven't gotten rid of any of their clothes. I just can't bring myself to do it. So we will pack them all along to the new house. Other than packing and organizing, or thinking about packing and organizing, we have had some wild hair days (as Jackson's hair is getting quite long and he will be getting a hair cut as soon as I am brave enough), gone on lots of walks (started walking the Issaquah Highlands hill-which is basically a mile straight up, pushing 50 lbs in the stroller that is), took down the Christmas tree and decorations (always hard for Andrew to do- and Siena still keeps asking where her Christmas tree is-oh did I mention she still asks about her Pumpkin from Halloween, serious separation anxiety), went to Zoey's 2nd birthday and Nathan's on month celebration (no pictures, sorry), walked around Redmond on the trails near Marymoor with the kids in the back pack (to get in shape for some serious hikes), visited our new house (also no pictures yet), took pictures of the kids and their Christmas presents for thank you e-mails, attended ballet, and taken care of one sick little boy. And you know what is worse than one sick little boy???One sick little boy and one sick little girl. Unfortunately Siena was right behind Jackson, and is quite a mess this afternoon and evening. He has a double ear infection and is now on antibiotics, so hopefully on the up and up. Although after his first dose of antibiotics, on the first night he slept the worse he has during this entire cold. Meaning last night was a series of short cat naps rather than a nights sleep for mom and dad. Andrew and I also watched Water for elephants. I loved the book and was slightly disappointed that the movie didn't follow it more, but that always happens.

So now with some horrible weather (pouring rain and cold) and sick kiddos we are trapped inside for the weekend. Hopefully we will get some packing done :)

The new year.

It is hard to believe that we are starting a new year already. Time just keeps going by faster. I thought it went by quickly after we had Siena, but now with two...it goes by even faster. I am so thankful that I can stay home with them and soak them both in as much as possible.

2011 has been a big year for our family. For me personally I made a huge decision on April 1st 2011 and quite my job of four year at Boeing. A decision that was hard to do, but one that has allowed me to truly get to know the life as a stay at home mom, and have an even stronger relationship with my children. One of the best decisions I have ever made.But of course if you know me, I have to be working on something right...so back to school I go. Starting in April 2012 I will hit the books (part-time in the evenings) to start my new profession of nursing.

For our children 2011 has been a year of fun, growth and change. They both had some big milestones this year. Jackson- got his first tooth, slept through the night, started crawling, started walking, said his first words- Hi, Mama, Dada, and Papa. And of course...much much more. Siena- got her first haircut, potty trained and said goodbye to the binky. These of course are just a few things that come to mind at this particular early morning. It is amazing how much these two have changed and developed into little people over this last year. It is scary to think how much more they will will grow and change over this next year, and I wish we could just freeze time and keep everything how it is.

For Andrew, he left Mortenson at the end of April 2011 and started on with Boeing. The 40 hour work week, paid overtime and fact that he would be driving to the same place everyday (although it is Auburn) -could not be turned down. His schedule is so much more flexible and it was crucial to lock down this job so he could help support my school schedule. His stress level has also decreased a great deal, and I no longer get yelled at in the middle of the night, by his sleep talking :) Oh and it pays a little better, all good things.

Beyond all the positive things that happened in 2011, there were two great losses that must not go unnoticed. On February 6th we said goodbye to Andrew's Uncle Len and on May 27th we said goodbye to Andrew's Aunt Stacey. Two very good people leaving behind so many loved ones that will never forget them and carry a piece of them with them everyday. We think about these two all the time and the reality that we don't get to see them still sometimes is hard to fathom. But knowing they are not suffering and in a better place watching over those they love puts our hearts at ease.

And because whether we like it or not, life and the world around us keeps on going on. So trying to live each day to its fullest and enjoy every moment together....here is how we have kicked off the new year. Waking up to a beautiful morning at Vashon. On Jan 2nd Andrew took the day off and we enjoyed walking around Snoqualmie, playing int he snow and taking pictures. And on Jan 3rd before heading back to Eugene, cousin Kailan attended ballet with Siena, a very special treat. Kailan watched Siena two summers ago, and these two hold a special bond. I love watching them together, and Siena loved that Kailan came to ballet with her. She keeps talking about it, and even told papa that Kailan got to go to ballet with her, but he can't because he is not a girl.

New Years- Vashon Style

We headed over to Vashon on Wed evening, for a four day weekend. We met cousin Sarah over there and had a quite night. On Thursday the Millers and Maders came. On Friday Andrew went to work, and his parents along with Sarah's boyfriend Chris came. It was a full house, and we had a blast. Of course we ATE all weekend. Crab cakes, seafood risotto, lasagna, chicken, crab, salads....tons of appetizers. And all soooo good. The weather wasn't fantastic, but it wasn't horrible. We were able to get outside and enjoy some beach time. The water came up soooo high on the dock, which made for a small window the beach was actually available. On Friday the 30th (Angie's birthday) we went to zoo lights. We left Jackson at the house with Sue and Andy, bundled up in tons of layers and headed to the ferry dock. We walked on the Tacoma ferry and HIKED (no joke...it was all up hill, on a dark street for about a mile) to the zoo. Some of the Bulls (Matt & Babe and Michael & Chelain) tagged along with us, which made for an even more fun evening. After the zoo, we found a bus that was shuttling people up to take us back down to the dock. We had the bus to ourselves, and it was Sophia's first bus experience. After being out in the freezing cold, it was sooooo nice to step foot on a warm cozy bus. Then with forty minutes to spare before the boat left, Shelia, Angie and I got a birthday drink at Anthony's while the boys watched the kids. We then boarded the ferry where we helped direct traffic with the laser lights Uncle Ben bought the girls at the zoo. A sure highlight of the evening. The laser lights kept the girls going and even doubled as a guitar back on the ferry. There were only a few animals to see, which was kind of a disappointment, but the lights were awesome and I am glad we went. Zoo lights was followed by game night back (Battle of the sexes) at the house, which is always loud, controversial and a ton of fun. Glad the Bull's stayed for this. On New Years, we took it easy in the morning and drove around the Island checking out the lighthouse, the big farm and Camp Sealth. We also spent some time on the beach and took our last family picture of 2011 (self-timer, ad we are all looking!). In the evening Matt and babe came back over for round 2 of game night. The star performer (green) cranium cards. Hummdingers, copycat's and cameo's. Another controversial and fun evening...girls against guys. I don't even remember who won, I think the girls. But it was fun. I didn't even make it to midnight, since I had stayed up until 2am both nights before, and slowly crept away at 11:00pm into the room with Jackson, Siena and Sophia all sound asleep. The others walked down to Matt and Babes where the party continued. I heard of hot tubbing, 4 loco, jumping in the water, old records and much more. It sure was a good way to bring in 2012, and with good people. The weekend was a blast and it ended with us leaving early Sunday morning to view our new house!!! More on this later but we will be moving in February to Redmond to an adorable house! We are beyond excited and can't wait to share more details later. It was the best way to start off 2012!

Christmas

We slept in, had a relaxing morning and enjoyed half the day at home with out any running around. Normally we try to pack in too much on Christmas and by noon I am exhausted. This year was different. We woke up to Siena sprinting into our room around 8am.. She didn't say anything to us but immediately started looking behind Andrew's dresser and then in his closet. We asked her what she was doing, and finally she muttered....where is he? We had promised that Santa was coming that night and he would bring all these gifts. But where where the gifts? Did he come? Is he still here hiding in my parents closet? It was quite cute to watch. Andrew and I took turns showering while making sure the kiddos stayed upstairs. Then I went downstairs, got the video camera going and taped the kids walking downstairs to see their presents. Everything was wrapped except for the big present from us. The present that we had been working on for weeks in the garage. The present I am pretty sure I broke my back loading into our car, and it BARELY fit. We picked up a free desk from craigslist, chopped off the bottom, chopped off the back, added shelves, hooks and plenty of fixtures, painted it green...and wahhh laaaa....a kitchen! It was so much fun to have a project Andrew and I could both work on together, and we were both very happy with the end results. We were going for a rustic Italian theme. Since we will be moving next month (more on that later) the color is the color of their room....so we have it to take with us to the new house. The picture is at a private residence outside of the city of Siena. I got to spend and evening their with a couple of friends, swim in the pool while looking at this amazing view, walk the olive orchards (where the owner then gave us the best olive oil to take home), eat cherries from the tree, and soak in this amazing old house that was occupied by American soldiers during WWII. The tiles were on the clearance rack at Lowes, but seemed to fit the look quite well. all of the hooks, faucet, knobs etc were painted in a bronzy gold. The curtains, which I sewed, are white with tiny off white flowers. and yes, the oven even has an oven light.Thanks to craigslist, IKEA the dollar store, and Lowes we did this project for around $100, and that includes everything that goes with it (dishes, food, pots and pans, utensils, and a broom (by far the coolest thing to Jackson). Anyways...seeing the look on the kids (mostly Siena's) face when she walked up to it and checked it out for the first time was pretty priceless. She wasn't quite sure what to do and, carefully started turning every knob and inspecting the oven and fridge. It was a success. We also read the note from Santa and inspected the cookie he took bites out of, the fact that he took all the carrots for the reindeer and he drank all the milk!!Then we started emptying out the stockings. Santa filled the kids with TONS of candy (he got lectured that next year we don't need this much), pajamas and Christmas mugs. He filled moms and dad with more candy, socks, underwear, mini baileys, lotto tickets, nail polish, makeup, and a wallet. After a quick hot cholocate break to fill up the new Christmas mugs, we then we moved onto the gifts where we got spoiled with clothes, TOMS, tool sets, back packs, jewelry, a down blanket, and stuff for the kitchen that Santa brought! There svereal OH MY GOSH!es when Siena was opening presents, she was so excited. She got most excited about a present addressed to Jackson from Santa, a basket of food for the kitchen :) Every year it gets a little more fun, leaving me already excited for next year....when they both understand what is going on. It was priceless, after we opened all the presents Siena got a super sad look on her face and said...all the presents are gone??? We explained that they weren't gone, they just weren't wrapped anymore, haha.

Later in the mid-morning/early afternoon we headed to Nonni and Papa Andy to celebrate Christmas with the Fitzpatrick side (about 35 in attendance). We were the first to arrive which is a nice quiet way to transition into the full packed house that later came. With so many people and a traumatic event (explained shortly) the evening was kind of a blur. We watched people arrive, and go to spend some good one on one time with Nana since she arrived early. Then a few hours into the greetings, Siena was ready for nap, and then it happened. Andrew asked me if I had packed the binky, and well I thought he did. Nope. We were binkyless with one addict of a child. Great. So we brought her into Andrew's room and tried to explain that she was going to need to take a rest without it today, because we left it at home. And well it was no use. Arms and legs started flailing and for the next hour and half she was inconsolable. Screaming at the top of her lungs, slamming doors, throwing herself onto the floor....clearly going through with drawls. With so many people in the house, you really couldn't hear her unless you were a few feet away from the door. So Andrew and I stood guard, tried talking to her, let her have some time and chatted with people as they walked by. there was nothing we could do, and I felt horrible that we were ruining Christmas. We had been setting ourselves up for this torturous night just after her birthday, since the binky fairy comes after your 3rd birthday and gives your binky to a new baby that needs it. But it was clear we had to follow through and not give it back to her and start the process all over again. She finally calmed for a little bit, which was enough for us to grab dinner, and then after nearly an hour and a half she decided to come out, and have a little bite to eat downstairs in the basement. Her face was completely red, but she had pulled herself together and it was back to normal. Shortly after this we opened presents, ate dessert, drank coffee, talked more and hung out in the basement. We were completely spoiled all over again here with tons of presents. The cousins (Payton, Tyson, Sophia, Siena and Jackson) all loved watching, listening and dancing to GG Louise play the piano. Quite a treat. On the way home I feared that it would be a wretched night, without the binky. I postponed the fight by cuddling up on the couch with her and letting her watch Polar Express. We really don't watch a lot of TV, and don't let Siena watch movies very often. So this was kind of a treat. The boys were sound asleep as Andrew had to work very early the next day. Once the movie ended she was still asking for her binky, and then the fun began. It was much shorter this time, but a bit more complicated. I didn't want her to go scream it out in her room, because she shares a room with her brother, and he is the lightest sleeper. So we started downstairs and I quickly realized she needed to be in her bed. At 11:30 I had to wake up Andrew and get his help. I carried Jackson into our bed with him, and the two instantly fell right asleep. I turned off the baby monitor, brought my flailing wailing child into her room and let her finish out her fight. After about 30 minutes I calmed her down by tickling her back and she was out instantly. The first night was horrible and I wish to NEVER repeat such a thing. The second night there was a little fight, but nothing compared to the first and after that....nothing. It really wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be. Oh and Jackson could pretty much care less that he doesn't have his. He sometimes cries for thirty seconds in his crib, but mostly is totally aloof to the fact that his binky is gone. The thing is he was just starting to enjoy the binky, so glad we got rid of his at the same time. So something I would have never expected to do on Christmas, but it is just the way it worked out. Hopefully Siena remembers all the presents, family, good food and playing with her cousins, above her loss :)

Christmas Eve

We started the morning off with a visit to the Lin family. We brought gingerbread crepes, let the kiddos played and best of all....got to meet the newest addition born on 12.13.11, little Nathan Huckleberry. It was great to kick off all the festivities with these friends. So glad we have remained in contact even after Andrew and Gary no longer work together. Nathan is so sweet and compliments there family perfectly. We then headed home, relaxed for a short while and finished Christmas eve off at the Miller's. It was a 'smaller' group this year, which means 20 for dinner and plenty of others stopping by for dessert and drinks. The food was amazing, and we even had lobster. Siena and Jackson were the only kiddos for the majority of the evening (except when Lucy stopped by for dessert), so they got lots of attention. Siena even got to help Uncle Mike set-up the blowup snowman and tigger, while Jackson anxiously watched from inside. Of course during all the excitement and hustle and bustle both kids decided to take a snooze. Siena is notrious for this, and was out for quite a while until I woke her up, while Jackson's was more of a cat-nap. It was also insane how spoiled we all are. We drew names and Andrew got a movie ticket coupon at the Redmond cinemas, babysitting coupon and an awesome ornament from Sheila, Nick and Mike. Kailan had my name and got me some cute tops and a bracelet. This kids got some cute hats, a placement, pluto stuffed animal, christmas mugs and plate. It was a very relaxed, fun evening and a great way to kick off the holiday festivities that followed over the next week. We ended the evening coming home, changing into our pj's, writing a note to Santa and leaving carrots for the reindeer and cookies and milk for Santa. It was the first time Siena really kind of understood what was going on. She told me everything to write, and we will for sure be keeping that note, especially because Santa signed it in the morning :)

Christmas Party

The Bianchi Bash. Hosted every year at a big hall in Normandy Park, because there isn't a house large enough to hold to party. Attendance is always near 80, all family. Grandparents, sisters and brothers, aunt's and uncle's, great aunt's and uncles, in-laws, girlfriends and boyfriends, cousins, second cousins once removed...and well you get the point.. I would be lying if I said that after my 8th party that I know everyone's name, and how everyone fits together. There are just too many to keep track of. Every year Santa comes (courtesy of Andrew's mom cousin's Tony....confused yet?), and the kids gets to sit on his lap and get a present (that the parents bring wrapped). Every year the food is amazing and there is always plenty to go around. Different variations of salads, pastas, lasagnas, sausages and yummy desserts. Every year we take a picture in front of the tree that is put up for Christmas by the hall, or at least we have tried to. This year the weather was slightly cloudy but not raining, making for some pretty pictures of the amazing view. This year the kids got to really run around, make a bunch of noise and have a great time burning off lots of energy. Siena in particular looked up to Mackenzie ( Andrew's mom's cousin John's daughter), Jackson liked following aroudn Mackenzie's older brother Matthew. It was quite cute to watch. We also got to see the Kalina girls who were back from school. Kailan use to watch Siena, so they always have shared a special bond. But you never know after long time has elapsed if they will care as much as they did before, at 2 years of age. But Siena went sprinting up to Kailan and gave her a big hug when she saw her. Siena also was quite the sassy pants directing Jackson in every direction that was necessary at that particular moment. This year she did 'ok' with Santa. Not great, but ok. No tears, and happy by the end of it...but still a little weary. Jackson on the other hand was not happy. Poor guy, his second encounter with this bearded old man in a big red suit. The other kids were also undecided. Although I didn't post any pictures. The Giesler clan was not excited about the man while the Kalamakis boys were totally fine. Pretty funny to watch this scene with Santa each year. We had a great time conversing with extended family, and look forward to this party ever year.

Leading up to Christmas

After the Santa breakfast on 12-11 we headed home for naps. After we were well rested we ventured to Katie and Trav's house. The plan was to take some pictures of the boys and then have dinner. The pictures did not turn out as well as I would have liked (as I was having a focusing issue) but a couple can be seen here. After our mini photoshoot at Juanita beach the kiddos got to play a little and then we enjoyed dinner. It is just getting more and more fun to watch them actually play together and interact. It is also getting harder and harder to get a decent picture of all of them together, haha.

On Tuesday 12.13 with a little sun and some cabin fever the kiddos and I went to the park. They will forever be my photo subjects, and I am not sure they are entirely thrilled about that at the moment :) But nevertheless they cooperated pretty good. With earlier morning rain that day resulting in wet slides and swings we did more picture taking and running around....before Jackson's melt down that brought us home for naps. Luckily we were just down the street. He is not a fan of the car seat, or being strapped down, and when he is in a mood....it usually means a long loud car ride home.

Then on 12.17 we took a trip to the Cougar Mountain Zoo reindeer festival. Our second trip (well Jackson's first). We went with our neighbor friends, which resulted in Siena having a blast. Anytime she gets to hang out with Mason and Hayley means lots of fun for her. She totally looks up and admires Hayley and it is quite cute for me to watch. I also planned on taking a lot more pictures, but my camera died. So the one picture of all the kids that I have, no one is looking, haha. Luckily Kasie had hers to snap the Santa picture of the kids. This is where Jackson got to first meet Santa, and you can tell....he was not a big fan. We actually made him suffer through this twice as the first couple of pictures were blurry. Better luck next year?

Santa Breakfast

It was a tradition when Andrew was a wee one. One that I never heard much about, until recently when we could finally partake in such events. In fact I had never heard of anything quite like this. Santa must not dine with kids in good-ol-Idaho. Or at least not this kid. The plan was for the older kids (Payton-3, Siena-almost 3, Ravenna-2.5, Sophia-2.5 and Lucy-2) to attend while the little ones and dads (Tyson-1.5, Jackson-1, Henry-1) stayed home. They charged for high chairs, and we just didn't think the little ones would get it, or care, so not worth it. Unfortunately Ravenna and Henry got the 24-hour flu the night before and were unable to go. Seeing how the tickets were already paid for, they offered them up to Andrew and Jackson-and so it became a family affair. We joined Cousin Sarah, Nonni and Papa Andy, Sheila and Nick, GG, Angie, Katie, and Anna and Colin. Can you believe it, they even had a table that fit all of us??!!?? Pretty sure it was the largest table at the Sheraton event. I am so glad we all went. The kids had a blast and it was amazing to watch their faces as Santa stopped by the table to snap a quick picture and say Merry Christmas. Some liked it, and for some the jury is still out. The breakfast was not too bad either. Anytime you cook for the masses, you just never know if your meal will be hot, and actually taste good, and I thought they did a great job preparing it all. The kids meal was a square waffle, with a half piece (cut diagonally) of french toast which formed a house, and a piece of bacon for a chimney. The table was full of marshmallows, m&m's, whip cream and other goodies to decorate the houses. We kind of overlooked that detail and went straight to eating. But I can assure you Siena enjoyed the m&m's from many tables. This girl can sniff out chocolate from miles away. It's dangerous. Believe it or not, the highlight (for me at least) was not Santa but the mini nutcracker performance they put on. Siena was enthralled as she is in Ballet and just kept saying, I want to dance like that. Then the icing on the cake-after the performance the dancers danced with the kids. They held hands, spun around, and taught them hand signals to Christmas songs. It was beyond adorable, and I am pretty sure it was the highlight of Siena's week. She got to dance with miss Clara, and is still talking about it. She also enjoyed seeing all her cousin's who she would spend all of her time with, if she could. Jackson was more interested in eating (of course) and running around with his Santa hat that I finally crocheted. I have been talking about crocheting Santa hats since Siena was born, and finally did it this year. He got so many comments on his hat, and he was quite the little show off and flirt. He flirted and posed for a shot with the ballerina's. That's right, just barely over a year and he's already breaking hearts :) Other highlights of the event were the clown's (not so much for Siena), magic show, Christmas music, and spending time with the family.

Back at the beginning of my pregnancy with Jackson, I decided it would be a really good idea to go back to school. A career change into a field I always had a great deal of interest in. Something that would provide a much more flexible schedule with kids. A field that had several different options and all at the same time still providing opportunity for future growth. Nursing. I did lots of research and quickly learned that there were several pre-requisites I would need before I could even apply. About a year of pre-requisites to be exact: Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology I & II, Nutrition and Psychology. None of which I took for my Finance and International Business degree at UW. I discovered that Renton Technical College had online classes with weekend labs. This allowed me to still keep my job, take classes on the side, and figure out if this was the route I really wanted to take. I started my first classes in fall of 2010. Jackson was born in the middle of the quarter, during midterms and mandatory labs. I don't know how I did it. But I somehow managed a 40 hour work week at Boeing, 10 credits of Biology and Anatomy and having a baby - all while pulling off some of my best grades.With my passion for the subjects and my lack of interest in my position at Boeing (that was quickly changing with the layoff of 20% of my organization and a new VP), I quickly realized that Nursing was the best choice for me. So in April 2011 I quit my job. Finally in June 2011 I finished up my pre-requistes and applied to schools. I also received my Nursing Assistant Certification in March-April 2011, on top of a full course load at Renton Tech. This summer I finished up a Healthcare Providers CPR course, and ran all around town to get several immunizations that I either needed renewed, or never had. In September I was FINALLY able to turn in my applications to Bellevue College and Lake Washington Technical College. About a week before planned, in late October, I found out I did not get into Lake Washington Tech and was devastated. I put out family in a sticky situation my quitting my job, and loosing over half our income, and now I had failed us. It didn't help that everywhere I went everyone was asking whether I had heard from any schools or not. I mostly just side stepped the question at first, and after some time had past accepted the reality that it might take a couple tries. Plus, I still was waiting to hear back from Bellevue College which was my top choice anyways. I got called into Bellevue in the beginning of November to do an essay. We were informed that only the qualified applicants had been asked to do this, so that was a good sign. Despite writing not being my thing I aced the essay and felt much better about my application. We were also told that we would find out in November of acceptance or not. With 10 days left to go in November, and being so sick of waiting- I got an e-mail from the program director. 'Unfortunately we won't be able to let you know until December.' I was beyond frustrated and checked the mail box religiously everyday.

I am finally happy to report that yesterday I got my acceptance letter!!! BUT- it came with stipulations. Why can't anything just ever be easy?? I was accepted into Bellevue College's new part-time nursing program starting in April 2012 (evening and weekends so we won't have to pay for childcare), but with the state budget crises the program has the potential to either be cut or have their fee schedule altered. So the good news is- I am in. The bad news is- the program might be cut, or be more expensive. We have orientation scheduled in February, and the program director is suppose to keep us posted in the meantime. I am trying to remain positive that with the nursing profession growing 20% until 2018, and the popularity of their full-time program that hopefully it will go on. And if not- at least I know that I will get into the full-time program as they accept 48 students and the part-time program only accepted 16 this go around!

On Monday December 5th Andrew stayed home sick as he and I were both coming down with a little bug. It was a big help as I got to sleep in, which was much needed after a week of horrible sleep. We did take the opportunity to set-up our Christmas tree and get into the Christmas spirit. Siena enjoyed decorating the tree, and even Jackson tried to help. Funny story..for Siena's first Christmas Andrew's Aunt Tia gave us these porcelain bootie 'baby's first Christmas" ornament. Siena insisted they were for her feet, and not for the tree. You can see her trying to put them on below :) I also utilized my sewing skills to complete my third sewing projects, our stockings! They are far from perfect, but they are homemade.

On Tuesday we went to our weekly ballet class, where I finally brought the camera along for a couple of shots. Even Jackson likes to participate in the class, and both kids love the big mirror. Siena sure is getting good at her sashay, gallop, tip-toe, courtesy, smooth and sharp movements and overall following direction from Ms.Charmin (her teacher). The big girls have class right after her class and every time she tries to line up with the big girls and insists that she is going to class with them. Soon enough :)

On Thursday the 8th, cousin Lucy came over for a couple of hours and we attempted to make some ornaments. It really was well intentioned. Flour, water and salt kneaded together. The kiddos then put their 'paws' in the dough and we baked them for about 30 minutes. I then planned on spray painting them gold and wrapping Lucy's up for her parent's on Christmas eve. Juel unfortunately had other plans. Since we keep her in the garage now while we are out of the house, she ate ALL 3 baked and spray painted ornaments. This dog eats everything and is our garbage disposal. But I was quite worried this time as she seemed to be having problems going 'number 2.' I was just waiting for her to sh** a gold brick. Luckily she was fine, although our ornaments didn't make it :(

December - First weekend

As Christmas approaches our weekends are filling up with holiday festivities.We started the first weekend in December with a holiday bazaar and a Christmas concert. That's right I did my first bazaar with my crocheted goods and screen printed onesies. It was a good experience and I was just happy to break even, plus a little extra. Andrew and the kids helped me set-up, visited me once during the fair and helped me take down :) I did the bazarr with Andrew's cousin Nick who sold his duct tape wallets, which were a big hit! Then on Sunday I did my first photo shoot (of people I didn't know- which can be seen here), we got our Christmas tree and we attended Andrew's grandma's holiday concert. This was our fourth holiday concert. It is so much to go and watch Siena. She loves the music and was a lot more interested in it this year. Although she did take a break from watching to do Aunt Sheila's hair and ask everyone around her for a hair tie. Jackson might need a couple years :) He just doesn't want to sit still.
The photo shoot of the sisters was a lot of fun, despite the cold foggy (horrible lighting) day. They were so cute together and seemed like a lot of fun. After the shoot we drove to a nearby Christmas tree farm and picked out our tree. It was SOOOO busy with the sun finally making an appearance. I insisted that I would cut down the tree, but soon realized it was a better job for Andrew.

This guy had his one year appointment on 11.28.

It went pretty well. The shots were a little rough, and now sisi totally gets it. I told her later that evening that we would be going back to the doctor in January when she turns three and she refused. I didn't get it and was confused. Until....I realized....she is totally scared and panicked already for the shots. Great, that will be loads of fun. Anyways, he is right on track for development and doing just great. I read others blogs (ya I definitely blog stalk) and notice when they post all of the percentiles that it seems like most kids are almost off the chart, in every area. Big that is. Well we too are almost off the charts, but the other way, haha. we have one little man on our hands.

Thanksgiving-Part 2

Now you are all probably wondering why the last entry was Thanksgiving, part1? What more could I possibly say or post about Thanksgiving right? Every year my Aunt Nancy hosts Thanksgiving the day after. So we put on the feedbag again and get to enjoy an entire new group of people. As always, an all organic and healthy feast was enjoyed by all. It was a low key evening, and very relaxing. The evening was centered around Louise and Nick announcing their engagement and of course our built in entertainment, Siena and Jackson.. We also have started the tradition of having my cousin Louise take our Christmas photo of our family before dinner. And boy oh boy, is this getting more and more fun to take :)

Thanksgiving- Part 1

On Thanksgiving day we headed over to Sue and Andy's. They accommodated about 20 people for dinner. The food was delicious (as always) and the company even better. It was fun to have all the cousins together running around. It just gets more and more entertaining.

A couple things that stuck out in my mind from the night...
*None of the kids were that interested in eating (at their awesome kids table), except one. As the big kids ran off to play. Little Mr. Jackson helped clear the plates. He can put back so much food, and you would NEVER know it by looking at him.
*Siena on the other hand wore herself out playing hard all afternoon and evening, and with no nap, crashed hard shortly after dinner during all the noise and party. She joined us again later around 8 o'clock.
*It was my first time making a pumpkin Cheesecake (our contribution to the dinner). Although barely any of it got eaten, we enjoyed it back at home during the next week :)
*And...it wouldn't be a Thanksgiving without a reminder of what we are thankful for. We of course went around the table sharing "I am thankful for..." with everyone. But I don't think I quite did it justice...so here it goes again.

This last year in Andrew's family has been a rough one, with a couple of extremely tough losses. Family members that will never be forgotten and live on in many of us today. Seeing how quickly life can change in just a year for these families, has been a big reminder for me in many ways. The most important...life is just too short and goes by way too fast. Too short for worry and stress. Too short to let people and things get under our skin. Too short to not take advantage of all the opportunities out there. And with time ticking away watching my kiddos lives unfold right in front me. I am trying to soak up every minute, enjoying the good and bad days, and sometimes just taking it one day at a time. So here it is..

I am thankful to have such a wonderful husband who helps out soooo much with the kids and around the house, even after coming home from a long day at work. He knows me oh so well and can tell by my tone on the phone what the house will look like, what moods we will be in when he walks in the front door. And on those days when things just haven't clicked and been so great, he still walks in with a smile on his face, gives us all a kiss, washes his hands, changes his clothes, and jumps in to help however he can. And above all the daily grind, I am soooo thankful for all his support in my crazy adventure of quitting my job, and going back to school. It certainly hasn't benefited our bank account in any way, and still could be the wrong decision, but not once has he complained. Instead he supports and encourages me on the good and not so good days.

I am thankful to have two beautiful, happy, smart and healthy children. They have changed me in ways I didn't know was possible and continue to bring so much happiness in my life. I am so thankful to be able to be home with them and watch there each and every move, as I know these are years we will never get back.

And lastly I am thankful for family. Parents, grandparents, in-laws, aunts, cousins...the list goes on. All of these people have supported our family, been there for us when we needed them, and continue to make lasting memories with our children and us. I can't imagine life without any one of these people.

Monkeyville at the Fitzpatrick's

We are in full blown imaginary friend stage. Yup that's right, we've got monkey's. Three to be exact. Mildred, Colorado and Vashon Island. I guess she has taken after us in naming things by places (Siena after the city in Italy and Jackson after Jackson Hole WY). Not sure about Mildred though...We read to our Monkey's, we color with our Monkey's, we bring our Monkey's to the bathroom, we sing them happy birthday, they go to school, brush their teeth and sleep with Siena every night. Siena is their mom and I am their grandma (aging me already). One day when I was vacuuming Siena was hysterical because I almost killed Mildred. I had to stop, turn the vacuum off, pick Mildred up off the floor and hand her to Siena on the couch. they are very real to her. I absolutely love watching her little imagination and all the things she picks up and reiterates back to her Monkey's. And she mocks me....already??She isn't even 3 yet. Oh and did I mention they are miniature and pink.

Beyond Monkeyville....she still makes us laugh everyday with her quirky and silliness. She recently has been talking about Jessica. We don't know a Jessica. So I ask her who is Jessica? And her respsonse.....who is Jessica?

She loves singing at the top of her lungs, and making up some pretty interesting songs.

She refers to Jackson as 'My Buddy' which I think is the most adorable thing ever.

She keeps telling me we are going to get another baby. She wants a sister and offers to trade in her brother. How kind....

Pink, dresses, sparkles, anything girly....has her name all over it.

Changes her babies diapers non-stop....they are always poopy. We may go broke due to this habit as she always tries to throw the diapers away.

And...has now cut her own hair two times.

The Sunday before Thanksgiving I brought her with me to get a pedicure, and she got her own (for free!). She loved every minute of it. She picked out yellow, no joke, her new favorite color.

Oh to think that little 7lb 8oz bundle we brought home almost 3 years ago has turned into this non-stop chattering, happy, caring, little girl with endless amounts of energy, is just crazy. Time couldn't be moving faster.

LC (my mom) made a trip to see us back in mid-November for Jackson's birthday. She was only hear for a long weekend, but we packed in a trip to Bellevue Square, Siena's first haircut, a weekend at Vashon, Gingerbread houses and a visit to Farrel McWhirter. It is becoming Siena and my mom's tradition to do gingerbread houses together and this was their third together! She still enjoys eating the candy, but actually participated in the decorating this year.

On Monday 11.14 before we dropped LC off at the airport we took a trip to Farrel McWhirter so the kiddos could see the animals and so we could show LC what the little farm was all about. We fed the goats, checked out the minipig (our fav), watched the cow and looked at the huge uprooted tree.

Later that evening (after LC went home) siena decided to set-up a sleepover for her babies. This was all her. We had no part in it, except for unclipping the sleeping bag.

Jackson never gets to do art project by himself these days, as someone usually takes over. So while sisi was taking a nap on 11.21, we got out the paint and let him go to town. It was a short lived project, but he had fun.

11.22.06 is the day Andrew and I got engaged. Hard to believe it was 5 years ago!! And what better way to celebrate...my cousin Louise and her fiance Nick got engaged on the same day. Nick invited us to dessert and celebrations after he popped the question to Louise at dinner. We dropped the kids off at Sue and Andy's ventured to Seattle in the pouring rain and enjoyed a bottle of champagne with these two and Louise's friend Jessica. Couldn't be more excited for Louise and Nick and all the good times ahead.

First Official Cut

It was nappy, LONG overdue, and had to be done. She almost made it 3 whole years without it being touched. And if you recall back in October, she made the decision to do it first. Which can be seen here. I was terrified the curls would be gone forever. But after her self inflicted butchering, something needed to be done. So we made an appointment at a kids salon, picked up my mom early from the airport that morning, and headed to Dooz 4 Kids. I was a little ambivalent about spending $20 on a kids haircut, and in all actuality I probably could have done it on my own. But I am SOO glad we did it. Anna was awesome, coaxed her into the shampooing lounger, talked her through the entire thing, spritzed her with sparkles, and finished it off with a little prize. She loved every minute of it. It looks much better and is actually curlier than before.

After much deliberation on the theme, I finally won. It had to be something centered around '1' seeing as he was turning one on one one- one one- one one (11.11.11), and that was no point of contention. First it was something surrounded around all of his firsts, but no...that would be too much work. Then it came to me, and I told Andrew my idea. He wasn't impressed. Mocked me for trying to throw a fiesta in November and reminded me weren't Spanish or Mexican. After showing him some examples online, the bright colors we could incorporate and reminding him that nothing else was coming to mind....he finally agreed. Once he finally agreed, he was all in and took over almost all of the preparation. Specially designed invitations just for the occasion. Color coordinated and handmade decorations including: tissue paper pompoms, decoupaged candle jars, handmade birthday banner, coordinating balloons and utensils, and cupcake toppers. A freezer paper shirt, just for the birthday boy (which I have received lots of inquires about-instructions can be found here.) A slide show of his first year (that Andrew put together) playing in the background. And UNO cards spread out everywhere. Yup that's right an UNO party!!!

Then there was the food. What could we make (at the beach house-not in our own kitchen) that would be good and yet easy as we would be feeding 17 adults and 6 kids. What is something everyone likes and healthy at the same time? Pizza? No....that is what we always do. Hmmm.....after several pinterest searches (my absolute new favorite site)- I knew exactly what we would be doing. A mac and cheese and salad bar. Two different mac and cheese dishes. One healthy (wheat noodles with a butternut cheesy sauce) and one hearty cheese soaked, rib-sticking comforting one. Served with toppings galore: toasted bread crumbs, roasted tomatoes, raw tomatoes, steamed broccoli, chicken hot dogs, turkey bacon, caramelized onions, blue cheese, and sun dried tomatoes. In which the toppings could also be doubled up with the salad bar. A big bowl of Organic spring mix and a side of peppers, carrots, and cucumbers. The only flaw (in my eyes of course) was our lack of salad dressings. I had planned on having a whole bunch, but overlooked that slight detail. So ranch and a homemade vinaigrette (thanks Sheila) served as the dressing selection. The food was finished off with carrot cake cupcakes, which also turned out great, of course in my opinion.

Andrew and I both are happy we went the extra mile on all the decorations and festivities, cause it really payed off. It sure was a great way to bring in one!

ONE on 11.11.11!!!!

A year ago today we finally got to meet you. You had us believing you could have been making your debut for weeks, but stubbornly showed up two days late. I will never forget the day. You woke me up at 3am with contractions. So it is only fitting that last night you woke up at 1am, 3am, and 5:30. Really dude?? You really have been sleeping through the night most of the time. You wake up once sometimes, but once given your binky go right back to sleep. So I am hoping last night was a fluke and you are just eager to celebrate your big day :) I still can't believe you are ONE! Time, as always, is just flying by and you are growing WAY too fast. It was you who made us parents to both a girl and BOY, taught us even more patience in this journey of parenthood and gave Siena a sibling. You ADORE your big sister and want to be just like her. You copy her each and every move, or at least try to. She makes you smile and laugh more than anyone. You even think it is hysterical when she is beating you up and pushing you over, well most of the time. You are such a mover and never sit still. We only get our cuddle time, when you are extremely tired, if we are lucky. You started crawling at 6.5 months, took your first steps at 10 months and now at ONE have walking mastered. YOu loving slam dunking your basketball into your hoop, and are quite good at it. You love tearing apart the toy box, leaving every inch of the carpet covered with toys. You are a big fan of music and love egg shakers, drumming, and dancing. You point at everything in public while you tell us things in your own little language, 'EH!' You have a couple words, dada, mama and the beginning of uh oh- 'UH!' You do the sign for milk, more and all done. You eat like you will never see food again. It is amazing how much you can throw back, and I have yet to see you turn down any kind of food. You even HAVE to use a fork while eating, to be just like everyone else. After you eat in your highchair you always come help finish everyone's dinner at the table. We started giving you whole milk a couple of weeks ago, and although you like it....boobs are still your favorite. You think you will be breastfeeding for life, but unfortunately that is coming to an end soon, and may be a hard reality for you. You have to do everything by yourself and refuse help. You won't hold my hand while walking and you won't let me feed you. Diaper changes and putting you in your car seat have become a WWF match. When you don't get your way you throw yourself on the ground and cry. You are a beautiful baby and have the most mysterious eyes people always comment on. You still have the most high pitched scream- and people in public cringe when they hear it and ask if a bird is in the building. You love putting everything in your mouth from shopping carts to rocks. Your personality has started to come out more recently and you are quite the comedian. You are still the biggest mama's boy ever and most of the time insist that I hold you above anyone else. You are stubborn, shy, sweet, sensitive, easygoing, funny, strong, destructive and 100% all BOY. We love you so much more then we ever thought was possible and can't wait to celebrate your epic birthday of ONE on One One- One One- One One!!!! Jackson thank you for being the adorbale boy that you are and bringing this parenthood thing to the next level. We love you bud, buddy, J, Jackie, J-bird, bub, bubba, Gackson(as sisi says it)!!!

We started November off with a fun painting project. Shaving cream painting in the bath tub. You mix dye (I used all natrual food dyes)with shaving cream, put your kids in the tub, give them a brush and let them go to town.

It pretty much turned brown since we painted in the same place over and over again, but they sure had fun.

We had to add some water as it was a slip and slide and Jackson kept falling all over the place.

On 11.3 we headed to Farrel Mcwhirter to see if the pig had some piglets, but no luck. Jackson was terrified off the animals at first, but eventually warmed up.

11.5-We stopped at Boeing Field to check out some airplanes, before going to walk around UW campus. This big guy is the 747-8, 18.3 ft longer than its predecessor (the 747-400). Always amazing to watch.

11.7-I ordered a new lens for the camera and was quite excited to have it arrive. Siena was more excited about the box.

The rest of October + Halloween

On 10.19 we met up with Aunt Angie and Cousin Sophia at flower world and later ventured to Craven Pumpkin Farm. We got to see some awesome plants, animals (goats, chickens, ducks, bunnies...etc) at Flower world. Towards the end Siena started to get a little freaked out as the chicken actually walk around with you and seemed to be charging at us. It may have traumatized her for life :| After Flower world we ended the afternoon at the Pumpkin Patch, and the kids had a blast. Since I forgot my camera, I owe Angie thanks to all the fabulous pictures she took. More pics here.

10.22-We woke up from spending the night at Nonni and Papa Andy's (helping bring in the mail while they were in Hawaii). The boy's eating yummy breakfast burritos.

On Sunday 10.23 we had dinner at Aunt Nancy's. Siena thinks Rory is a kid her age and brings out the potty talk in full force when around him. Whenever she talks about him she always starts the sentence...'Rory says POOPY...HAHAH!' She thinks it is pretty funny.

On 10.27 we attempted our first freezer paper shirt to help out Andrew's cousin with a Halloween costume.

While I was intricately cutting out the stencil, my sidekick was handed a pair of scissors to practice cutting paper. Since I didn't hand her the pair of scissors I was not paying attention at all. All of a sudden I hear... 'Look I cut my hair!!'

On Sunday 10.30 the kids got to debut their homemade (my second sewing project) Halloween costumes at Lucy's second birthday party. Were they perfect, far from it. But they were homemade, and I was pretty proud of myself as it was the first time I followed a pattern. I even found some awesome crazy blue yarn and decided to skip the wigs and crochet the hats. On Monday, Halloween evening, we headed to Kirkland to go trick-o-treatin in the neighborhood Andrew use to go trick-o-treatin in when he was little. The weather was far from perfect, but it did hold up enough so we were able to do door-to-door. Despite being cold, both kids did great, and Siena was really into it this year. She even turned down going in early so we could get more candy. Their costumes were a big hit and we even ran into another thing 1 and thing 2 (middle school boys), which was pretty funny. Our biggest issue was when people handed candy directly to Jackson (as we didn't have a bag for him). He would NOT give it up, and if you didn't take it away he would bite through the wrapper. He definitely has his mom's sweet tooth.

In general he is really starting to show his fun little personality and pick things up.

He loves tormenting his sister already and enjoys taking her binky and bugging her when she isn't at her best :)

If he is getting into things he isn't suppose to be and you say 'Jackson!' He turns, looks at you, smiles and keeps doing it.

If you take something from him that he isn't suppose to have, he throws himself on the ground and starts to flail.

Still screams like a bird, and we even had someone on the phone ask if it was a child or a bird.

Is so mischievous and gets into everything!! Likes taking out every toy possible from the toy shelf.

Bottomless pit....I honestly think this kid might eat more than all of us put together, and that is saying a lot, because we are all eaters. We might go broke feeding him :)

Sept 5th

My mom and stepdad were visiting from Idaho and were headed back home. Siena: 'Are you going back to Idasota?'

Sept 21st

The night before we left for Colorado. We are up late packing and the kids didn't want to sleep as they were feeding off our excitement of going on vacation. We finally finished up and started to put the kids to bed. Siena got hysterical and started yelling and screaming 'NOOOOo I want to go to Idasota.' Apparently she thought we called off the trip since we were done packing and weren't leaving right then.

Sept 26th

At the Denver airport. We were eating dinner before our flight.
Siena: 'Here comes a lady. Here comes a lady. Here comes a lady.'
Mom: 'What?'
Siena: 'Here comes a lady down the alligator!'

*A lady was coming down the escalator.

Right after...Andrew was trying to help her eat her food and she looked at him and said: 'Don't you even.'

Sept 28th

We woke up and headed downstairs to eat breakfast, me, Siena and Jackson. When we finally sat down to eat our cereal, milk and coffee, Siena leaned over, touched my arm and said: 'I Love you sweetheart.'

Have I told you she is the worlds biggest back seat driver???Well she is. We were driving, came to a red light and were stopped.
S: 'Go pappa go!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go! Go! Go!
P: 'Siena, we can't drive we are at a redlight.;
S: 'Are you kidding me cars????DRIVE!'
P: 'Hmmmm, she sounds like her mother.'

Oct 15th

We were at Andrew's parent's house for Nonni's birthday and were watching her open her presents. We gave her a comfy blanket and a bundle of different types of hot chocolates. Siena was excited and pointing everything out to her. Siena : 'Look Nonni it's Mallows Marsh!' she of course was talking about Marsh mellows :)

Other funny things.

*Dangerous is still pronounced DRangerous.

*She loves the world hysterical and uses it correctly in context.

*Points out (usually at very opportune times) if people have whowho's or wieners :)

*Has started commenting on shapes and sizes of people and asks anyone with even a slight belly if there is a baby in their (men and women).

And last but not least....it must be noted...her FAVORITE word is WHY??????After EVERYTHING you say, do, or don't do. It is beyond out of control :)

A true test

Last week this guy gave me the biggest scare I have experienced yet as a mother:

This isn't one of my proudest stories, because it could have been avoided. But it is a story that needs to be told. Firstly so Jackson can somewhat understand how mischievous he was one day and secondly so other mothers can hopefully learn a lesson I wish to have learned in a slightly less traumatic way.

It goes something like this...Our morning routine is to eat breakfast downstairs, check out the weather, play a little bit, head back upstairs for bath time, and get ready for our day. Last Friday we were going about our business and had just finished bath time. The kids were dressed and I was attempting to do something with Siena's crazy hair (which I have yet to fully master). Their room is fair game. Anything goes as it is baby proofed and full of toys. As I was sitting on the floor doing Siena's hair I looked over and Jackson (sitting right next to me) looked like he was choking. I dropped everything and started pounding on his back. He was really struggling, turning bright red and bluish and becoming silent. I immediately threw him face down over my forearm and gave him some hard back slaps. Still nothing. I thought maybe he got one of the clear hair ties I was using on Siena's hair and made an executive decision to swipe his mouth. Nothing. I thought about stopping what I was doing and calling 911, as I was really starting to panic, but quickly realized there wouldn't be enough time. I considered starting CPR as nothing was coming out but wanted to give the back slaps a few more tries. After about 3-4 more slaps and some final sounds of coughing this came shooting out:

I had NO idea where this came from and hadn't seen it in their room before this. I instantly felt guilty and horrible that I didn't find the penny before him. We all have seen our children mildly choke on some food, pound on their back a couple times and the issue becomes mitigated with very little panic or real concern. This was nothing like I had experienced before. I have NEVER witnessed ANY child struggling like this, yet alone my own child. The fact that I even had time to think about calling 911 can tell you how long this lasted for, an eternity.

So beyond the basic re-checking their room for small minuscule objects that could cause potential danger the real lesson learned here was this....Babies (and puppies) will find things you didn't know existed. They must always be watched, and it only takes one second (not even) for something to happen. It seems highly unlikely that something of this sort doesn't happen to every child at some point in their life. Instead of saying this won't happen to me or my child, what I am suggesting is preparation for yourself, or any one you trust your child with, if this situation did arise.

Luckily for me, as I have just applied to nursing schools I was required to become certified in Healthcare Provider CPR. I just completed this certification in August, and because of this it was fresh in my mind, and I knew what to do. It was still scary, as one will never imagine doing something like this to your own child, but I can honestly say that I 100% would recommend EVERY parent and caregiver to brush up on these skills. Do so by taking a class or just reviewing on your own time online, and take it seriously. It is also important to refresh your memory once a year and make sure you are knowledgeable with the current procedures as they are always changing. I have taken a handful of CPR classes (like most) but without this being fresh in my mind, I honestly don't know if I would have known what to do, especially if the penny didn't dislodge itself.

Colorado

This trip was one for the books, at least in my mind. It would be an understatement to say that we took a few pictures in Colorado. I feel fairly confident that we captured almost every moment. Unless you have an afternoon to read all this and look through the 132 pictures that I uploaded, then don't bother. Seriously....make sure you have recently used the restroom and have a full tummy before going any further.....We flew into Denver on a Thursday afternoon, rented a car (our first time!) and journeyed up to an elevation of 7500 feet to Beaver Creek Colorado. We even summited a pass at 11,500 feet, in the car of course :) Our trip was full of hikes, train rides, park time, football, crocheting, reading, playing with CC, Boompa, LC & BO, sneezes :( , eating, shopping, laughs, picture taking...and much more. We packed in a lot in only 4.5 days, and got extremely lucky with beautiful weather and amazing colors of fall. Being with my mom (LC) and grandma (CC), always guarantees a giggle or two. There is always a story to tell, and at least a few moments of hysterical laughing that leave you trying to catch your breath. For the sake of actually trying to remember some of these stories, as there are oh so many...I will share my two favorite of the weekend.

-Credit Card-
We arrived around 9pm on Thursday in Beaver Creek and after a short welcoming, headed to bed. Upon waking up in the moment and deciding to venture out to a nearby town for a train ride, CC discovered her credit card was gone. We checked every purse, pocket, jacket and car. We called the last store she had been to. No luck. We called the credit card company. No suspicious charges. We knew it was somewhere. We called off the mission for the MIA Mastercard and jumped in the cars to make the train. Now we lost the condo key, and where's Boompa? After 5 minutes of regathering, a recovered key and loading up into the correct vehicles, off to Leadville for the train ride. The rest of the weekend was spent looking for the card, rechecking everyWHERE and still no luck. On our last night in Colorado, Jackson was crawling and WALKING around all over the place ( our little mover) and for some reason decided to hide behind a chair in the back corner. Upon retrieving Jackson, Andrew glanced down between the trim and carpet, bent down and yelled 'I WIN!' Yup that's right...her Mastercard was wedged in between the trim and carpet against the back wall (most random place ever). We still have no idea how it got here, even though I was blamed for purposefully putting it there as a joke. I wish I could have thought of something so creative, but I unfortunately can't take any credit for that.

-Three cars, three directions-
Right outside of the condo there was massive road construction, which resulted in a stop and slow flagger. Everytime we got in the car to go somehwere we had to battle the construction, which luckily wasn't too much of a hassle. On Saturday afternoon we decided to go for a little hike. CC knew where the trail head started, and would show us where to start. Our midsize (more like smart car) was full with car seats and no extra seats. So it went something like this: Andrew, Carlie, Siena, Jackson-Ford Focus 1; Jim, Lindsay- Ford Focus 2; and CC-Giant force to be reckoned with-Siena minivan. Yes that is right folks, due to chauffeuring her lady friends the week before, CC was lugging around a van and there was nothing mini about it. The flagger motioned for CC to go, she took off and knowing we were all following each other...they held the rest of back. Finally we were motioned to go and we headed in the direction CC went, with Jim and Lindsay following. We couldn't find her. We kept driving and when Jim and Lindsay motioned for us to pull over, we did. Jim: "Have you guys seen CC.' Me: 'Np, oh wait...ya about 5 minutes ago. Jim: 'Great, she has Nevada plates that is the only way we will find her.' Lost, confused and thinking of our next steps. Andrew: 'Here she is, honk honk!!' Somehow she drove right in front of us, and had us back on track.

Now, these stories probably don't seem that funny upon reading, but I can assure you in the moment they were terrific. It probably should be mentioned that this sort of thing happens every time us girls (my mom, me, and CC) are all together...and somehow we always find it/each other, and everything works out.

Other memories of the trip are : Jackson walking for the first time, cutting his top left tooth and saying uh oh for the first time, a first visit to Colorado for all the Fitzpatrick's except Carlie, Siena obsessing over the dresses CC got her and insisting on wearing them non-stop, a large man on the train doing some unpleasant yoga stretching, a chaotic stop at Safeway with an interesting and very 'helpful' deli man, a man search (by foot) for us as we lost our way in Leadville, and almost missed the train-thank you LC, watching the kiddos instantly take to CC & Boompa like they see them all the time, and a visit to Red Rocks on the way home.

From pampers to princesses

Before I inundate everyone with hundred of pictures of Colorado and our adventures of a long weekend, I must not overlook an important milestone.

This girl right here:

SHE IS POTTY TRAINED!!!!Yup that is right...onto princess underwear (which truly sealed the deal for her). I hate to admit it, but she has been ready for a while...I just don't think I was quite ready or knew what to do. Don't get me wrong, I love that I have only one kid in diapers, but being on the go and using public restrooms while holding an infant and balancing a toddler is a bit of a challenge. Anyways...we had been trying the potty for months and she even did a week of using it months ago with only 2 accidents....but every time she had an accident I sheepishly took it to mean she wasn't ready, and put her back in diapers. So basically I instilled in her no confidence that she could do it. So right before labor day, I decided I was done. Done changing diapers for this little person and done playing games...it was go time. We woke up, and I immediately changed her out of her diaper and into her underwear. She was not thrilled about the idea, but not too resistant at the same time. I told her we would be using the potty from now on and wearing big girl panties, just like mommy :) She had a couple accidents the first two days, but we pushed through it, and never looked back. My mom watched her over labor day and bought her some princess underwear, that really did seal the deal. She has had one accident in public, but that was a few weeks ago. Of course it was the one time I rushed to Michael's before nap time to pick out some yarn I needed. There was no change of clothes in the car, so we put on one of Jackson's diapers, wrapped my hooter hider around her, stuck her in the shopping cart, went back into the store, made my purchase, and went on our way. Maybe not my proudest moment, but heck I hauled everyone to the store, I wasn't about to go to home empty handed. She also has wet the bed a few times, the first being the one night I slept with her (as my mom and step-dad were in our room) and she peed the bed on me, the joys of motherhood right? But after cutting off liquids a little bit earlier in the evening, and ensuring we go to the bathroom before bed she has been accident free at night also. Our last hurdle we have seemed to jump is public restroom. The first month she refused to go in public restrooms. She would hold it, and we would either rush home or let her use a potty that was in the trunk (in the emergency case where we weren't near a potty). With our impending trip to Colorado nearing, I was panicked. We had a 2.5 hour flight to Denver and a two hour car ride to our condo. Luckily about a week before the trip she pulled it together and went twice at a restaurant, and ever since then it has been no problemo. I really don't blame her though, does anyone like public restrooms??

I probably have been hesitant to post this in fear that it would jinx it all. But we are definitely past that. She has no interest in diapers, brings herself to the bathroom on her own now, and hardly lets you help her. It was pretty cool to watch her accomplish this skill, and learn right along with her. Just another reminder how fast she is growing up. Oh and stay tuned for Jackson's big milestones....he is desperately trying to keep up with his big sis.
